Bhutan Tourist Attractions

Bhutan Tourist AttractionsKnown as the last Sanghri la (utopian paradise) on earth, the amazing country of Bhutan simply fascinates the senses. From snow-capped mountain peaks to historical relics, a huge number of tourist attractions adorn the wonderful landscape of Bhutan. With its tourism industry growing at a steady pace, Bhutan is slowly emerging as a great tourist destination to explore and marvel at.

Some of the tourist attractions in Bhutan are:

Paro Valley

The Paro Valley lies in the central part of Bhutan and boasts of a rich history that never fails to amaze its visitors. Beautiful Dzongs (temple complexes), monasteries and palaces adorn this valley that has retained its old worldly charm in spite of the ravages of time. In fact, this wonderful region exists in a state of blissful ignorance that contributes greatly to its undeniable charm.

Punakha - the old capital

A three-hour drive from Thimpu takes you to Punakha, the old capital of Bhutan. This old city stands majestically near the banks of the Punakha River that is often referred to as an angler's paradise. Visit the Punakha Dzong that is a classic example of the intricate Bhutanese style of architecture.

Tongsa

Tongsa boasts of spectacular scenic views and a beautiful monastery that is indeed a work of art. Besides, Tongsa is also famous as the place where the first attempt to unify Bhutan was made.

Mongar

Mongar boasts of a scenic landscape and one of the most wonderful Dzongs you can ever come across in Bhutan. Built somewhere around the 1930's, the Mongar Dzong also qualifies as one of the most famous tourist attractions in Bhutan. It must be noted that no drawings or nails were used to make this prime specimen of Bhutanese architecture.

Bhutan Festivals

A number of colorful events and festivals take place in Bhutan every year. Most of the events have religious undertones to them, but that doesn't underlie the boisterous nature of the Bhutanese people. Moreover, the colorful events are indeed a treat to watch.

Adventure Sports

If you want that extra adrenaline rush as you go about exploring Bhutan, there is good news for you. Bhutan offers a number of exciting adventure sports like trekking, rafting, mountain biking and rock climbing. Besides, day hikes are fast gaining popularity among tourists in Bhutan. However, if you are looking for sedate options, Bhutan also offers great opportunities for golfing and fishing.

Other tourist attractions in Bhutan include Taktsang (the Tiger's nest), Phajoding, Bumthang Valley and the Thimpu Valley. With its varied flora and fauna, Bhutan is also a nature lover's paradise.
